Standard Referenced: NFPA 13, 2016 Edition (with some updates to the 2019 and 2022 editions highlighted)



This webinar will discuss the requirements for working plans that are submitted to the authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) for approval. Using the 2016 edition of NFPA 13, attendees will learn about the 46 items that are required to be included on the working plans, as well as significant changes that were accepted for the 2022 edition of the standard. In addition to the working plans checklist, this webinar will discuss the importance of the owner’s certificate, the information included in the owner’s certificate, and who is responsible to fill it out.

Identify and understand the intent for the 46 items required to be included on working plans
Identify and apply items that are only included when applicable.



John August Denhardt, P.E., FSFPE

John August Denhardt, PE, FSFPE, is Vice President of Engineering and Technical Services. He is responsible for strengthening AFSA's engineering and technical approaches to meeting member, industry and operational priorities, with an emphasis on service, quality, and integrity. In addition to his P.E., he is a NICET Level III in Water-Based System Layout and Inspection & Testing of Water-Based Systems. A native of Maryland, Denhardt holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Protection Engineering from the University of Maryland in College Park.Prior to accepting this position, Denhardt was employed by Strickland Fire Protection in Forestville, Maryland since 1994, overseeing large scale projects and assisting with design and installation technical issues. He has served as an AFSA instructor, volunteered as a subject matter expert assisting with AFSA training updates, represented the Association on various technical committees, and authored numerous articles in the Association's flagship publication Sprinkler Age. In 2010, he was named a Fellow in the Society of Fire Protection Engineers.

Kevin Hall, P.E., MSFPE

Kevin Hall, M.Eng, P.E., MSFPE, CWBSP joined AFSA in 2020 as the Coordinator of Engineering and Technical Services. He has been in the fire protection industry for nearly 10 years. He is a registered professional engineer in Delaware and Maryland and has his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in fire protection engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park. Hall is a member of several NFPA technical committees..
